  • Skindred sign global recording deal with DoubleCross

Posted by on January 15, 2013

DoubleCross, Cooking Vinyl’s recently launched rock imprint, are delighted to announce the signing of UK Ragga Metal band Skindred to a new worldwide record deal.

With media already predicting 2013 as the year of heavy rock, the band are currently camped in Roni Size’s Bristol studio, writing and recording in preparation for a new album. The new material will be produced by James ‘LeRock’ Loughrey (Page & Plant, Flux Pavilion) who worked on the band’s 2011 album “Union Black”.

Described by Radio 1’s Daniel P Carter as “one of the best live acts Britain has ever produced”, Skindred are a genuine worldwide phenomenon, uniquely blending elements of punk, rock, metal, reggae and electronic music. In 2011 they won Kerrang’s much-respected Devotion award, while last year the band picked up Metal Hammer’s coveted Golden God for Best Live Act.

2012 also saw Skindred play to audiences across the world, with a string of high profile festival slots – including Download, Exit and Rock A Parque – along with sold-tours at venues such as London’s Brixton Academy. The band has sold more than half a million records worldwide during their career to date.

DoubleCross intend to build on this significant international profile, coordinating a dynamic global campaign for the new album set for release in 2013.

Celebrating the signing, DoubleCross general manager, Phil Hopwood said: Skindred are a genuinely unique band. They sound like no one else, and it’s really exciting to be working with them. We feel there is huge potential for Skindred internationally whilst continuing to develop their UK profile.”

Skindred’s manager, Seven Webster from 7PM Management, added: “I love what Cooking Vinyl have done with acts like The Prodigy globally, and I have known Phil since he was one of the best label managers at Vital (now PIAS UK). To be working with this combined tour de force is for me the perfect team to help take Skindred to the next level.”

DoubleCross was launched in 2012. Hopwood’s mission is to sign the world’s hottest rock and metal acts.

Skindred join the label as it is primed to release ‘King Of Conflict’ the much-anticipated debut album by The Virginmarys (due February 4th 2013).
